URGENT APPEAL/STATEMENT
Mysterious Death of 9 year old Dipshikha Oil, daughter of Women Human Rights Defenders, Kaushila Singh Thakuri, Bardiya District
The National Alliance of Women Human Rights Defenders is shocked at the mysterious death of 9 year old, Dipshika Oli, daughter of Kaushila Singh Thakuri, chairperson of Women Human Rights Defenders Network, Bardiya district.
On 18 June, 2011, Dipshikha left from Nepalgunj to her home in Jamuni VDC around 12 PM. She was playing around the area, when she was found missing at 5 PM. Her father reported that his daughter was missing to the Local Police Station, Jamuni VDC.
The Women Human Rights Defenders Network also reported the incident to the District Police Station, Bardiya district. To our dismay, the missing child was found dead on 19 June, 2011 at 11 AM. Her body has been sent to Bheri Hospital for post mortem.
On 7 June, 2011, the government of Nepal accepted recommendations to develop a special program for the security of Human Rights Defenders including Women Human Rights Defenders. We demand the state incorporates security of the family members of the Human Rights Defenders also.
We, the Women Human Rights Defenders, demand the state to take the following action.
- Immediately form an impartial independent investigation body;
- Restoration of Justice;
- Ensure the investigation is free from threats and intimidation;
- Ensure increased security for Women Human Rights Defenders and their family members
